More self management through group consultations
General practice care is under pressure due to, among other things, an increase in chronic diseases and a decrease in healthcare personnel. During group consultations, a large number of people can receive information and undergo check-ups simultaneously. In doing so, participants can inspire and support one another. A GP practice in Amsterdam West wants to investigate whether offering a series of group consultations promotes self-management and reduces the number of individual consultations. The basic principles are that patients receive all information and check-ups at the same time, and that support from peers has a beneficial effect (social cure). Additionally, this new way of working contributes to better collaboration in the neighborhood and increases the job satisfaction of the healthcare professional.
